Lower Abdomen Dispel Stasis
Decoction
This formula comes from Wang
Qing-ren’s Yi Lin Gai Cuo (Correcting the Errors in the Forest of Medicine)
published in 1830 CE. Our version is a 10:1 powdered extract in 500 mg gelatin
capsules.
Rx:
Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis)
Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong)
Chi Shao (Radix Paeoniae Rubrae)
Wu Ling Zhi (Feces Trogopterori)
Pu Huang (Pollen Typhae)
Yan Hu Suo (Rhizoma Corydalis)
Xiao Hui Xiang (Fructus Foeniculi)
Mo Yao (Myrrhae)
Gan Jiang (dried Rhizoma Zingiberis)
Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi)
Functions: Quickens the blood and dispels stasis, warm the channels and
stops pain
Indications: Lower abdominal blood stasis manifesting as dysmenorrhea,
irregular menstruation, low back pain, uterine bleeding, etc.
Signs & symptoms of lower abdominal blood stasis include:

static spots, or static macules

Possible choppy, bowstring,
slow, deep, bound, regularly intermittent, skipping, or absent pulse
Formula explanation:
Within this formula, Dang Gui, Chuan Xiong, Chi Shao, Wu Ling Zhi, Pu Huang, Yan
Hu Suo, and Mo Yao quicken the blood and dispel stasis. Xiao Hui Xiang moves the
qi, especially in the lower abdomen. Gan Jiang and Rou Gui scatter cold and warm
the channels.
Dosage: According to Him-che Yeung in Handbook of Chinese Herbs and
Formulas, Vol. 2, the standard daily dose in decoction for this formula is 69
grams. Because of the 10:1 concentration ratio and the efficiency of our
manufacturing process it would take only 10 capsules per day of Blue Poppy's
version of this formula to equal the standard daily dose. The actual prescribed
dose should be determined by the practitioner on a case by case basis.
