Topicaine has a pH of 7.5\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e\nAction:\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n\nTopicaine applied to intact skin provides dermal \nanalgesia by the release of lidocaine from the gel into the epidermis and \ndermis. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic agent of the amide type. Local \nanesthetics reversibly block the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by \ninterfering with the flux of sodium ions though the neuronal membrane. The \nonset, depth and duration of dermal analgesia provided by Topicaine�depend \nprimarily on the site of application and duration of application. Adequate \ndermal analgesia is obtained after 1 hour of application, and the effect \npersists for approximately 1 hour after removal. Areas such as the upper lip may \nbe numb after 30 minutes of application. Dermal application of Topicaine�may \ncause local blanching followed by local redness or erythema. These effects are \nmild and transitory.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\nUseage:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\nTopicaine(lidocaine 4%) is indicated for the temporary relief of \npain and itching. It is a topical analgesic for use on\u003cb\u003enormal \nintact skin\u003c\/b\u003efor local pain \nrelief.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\nTopicaine is not recommended for use on mucous membranes because \nof much greater absorption than through intact skin. Topicaine is not \nrecommended for use beyond the external ear. Not for ophtalmic use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\nWarnings:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\nFor external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. Do not use \nover large areas of the body. Do not use for more than 7 days unless directed by \na doctor. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. In case of \naccidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control \nCenter immediately.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\nInappropriate use of this product, such as application on mucous \nmembranes, on large areas of the body, or on individuals that are allergic to \nthe amide type anesthetics, may result in serious side effects. Consultation \nwith a doctor before using this product is strongly recommended.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n\nRepeated doses of Topicaine may increase blood levels of \nlidocaine. Avoid contact with the eye since it may cause severe irritation and \nloss of protective reflexes. If eye contact occurs, immediately wash out the eye \nwith water or saline.
