Dispel Wind-Damp

Dispel Wind-Damp eliminates pathogenic Wind-Dampness lodged in the channels, collaterals, muscles, bones, and joints. This action addresses Bi syndrome and related musculoskeletal disorders by expelling Wind-Damp pathogens that obstruct qi and blood circulation in the exterior and channel system.

Clinical Application

Indicated for Wind-Damp Bi patterns presenting with joint pain that migrates (Wind predominant), fixed heavy pain with swelling (Damp predominant), or combined presentations. Clinical manifestations include arthralgia with stiffness worse in damp weather, muscular soreness, limited range of motion, numbness or heaviness in limbs, and cutaneous numbness. Commonly applied in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue with joint involvement when presenting as Wind-Damp patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wind Bi presents with migratory joint pain that moves between locations, while Damp Bi shows fixed, heavy pain with swelling and numbness. Wind Bi responds to weather changes and movement, Damp Bi worsens with humidity and improves with warmth and gentle movement.
Combine with kidney tonics when treating chronic Bi patterns over six months, elderly patients with joint pain, or presentations with lower back weakness, knee instability, and constitutional deficiency signs. The combination prevents further depletion while addressing the root pathogen.
Add heat-clearing and blood-cooling herbs like Zhi Mu, Huang Bai, or Sheng Di Huang. Reduce warming herbs and increase cooling, anti-inflammatory botanicals. Consider reducing dosages of warm, drying Wind-Damp herbs to prevent Heat generation.
